Bernard (Boom Boom) Geoffrion said he invented the slapshot

While Bernie Geoffrion is generally given credit for popularizing the slap-shot (his nickname of "Boom Boom" came from someone (maybe a reporter or front-office type) who heard his shots booming off the boards in practice), it's possible other players used a similar but shorter "wind-up" type slap-shot. Back in those days, wrist shots and snap shots were the norm, and a big wind up for a slap shot wasn't very popular. But Bernie G. came along and showed the hockey world, and the rest, as they say, is history.
