It's my senior year in college and I’m finally going somewhere cool for spring break, and not just going back to my hometown. This will be my first time leaving the continental US and I wanted to know what to expect during March 3-10, 2007. Also, do I need to start doing sometime to prepare for this trip now? I welcome all responses, but there is a slim chance I will change my mind on this location.
-Thanks(-:

I visited Cancun in Jan through Feb....loved it soooo much that I moved here in June!
Yes, there are dangers, but if you use your head, you will be fine. I recommend to the tourists that if you don't speak any Spanish, stay in the hotel zone after dark. (Many tourists never leave the hotel zone.) If you use common sense, you will not have any problems. Don't go strolling around downtown at midnight displaying fancy jewelry. Cancun is a very safe place - locals know that their livelihood depends on tourism - the worst i see happening to you is being overcharged for a taxi!
You can exchange your dollars here...no need to do it before you leave. However, shop around for the best exchange rate.
Most importantly - MAKE SURE YOUR PASSPORT IS VALID. The laws are changing, and beginning in December, you cannot enter Mexico without a passport.
Have a wonderful trip and ENJOY PARADISE!!!!!!!!!!!

people should learn to tuffen up a bit. cancun is safer then your towns show respect and respect will be given. whats the point of going to another country just to stay in a safe zone surrounded by comforts that remind you of home..... is the memory of another country what different burger they have at mcdonalds! get out there, yeah cancun is fun but so is the surrounding places. playa del carmen, although rather touristy is a great place. tulum, akumal, cozumel, even merida... and how hard is it to learn few words in spanish....i worked in cancun for 2 years and i was laughing every time i heard tourists say `i can`t leave the hotel zone....it`s too dangerous` .... get out there and learn the hard way and you will become better off and more confident.
the town is great and you will have a ball. the best club is the city and down town on yaxchilan ave there is a cool bar called la taverna which has great happy hours all day and pool tables. march is a busy time so look into the tours you want to do and dont bye at the airport. check in the hotel lobby and around the pool for the best deals dont book ahead, just do it at the hotel and compare prices... don`t be an idiot, show respect and enjoy your self

Cancun- is soooooo much fun you will have a blast.
Definetely get a passport before you go, this is a requirement that will go in effect in 07 you must have a passport to travel to Mexico.
I would also recommend you exchange some of your dollars to pesos before you leave, the exchange rate from U.S dollars to pesos is better.

Well also if you plan on bringing people back to your hotel at night, you wont be allowed.
I was there this past spring break and because of what happened in Aruba, they do not let other put come into your hotel at night.
But they have tequila so its all good!

You will like Cancun if you are single.......I just got back recently and it's def party central (not my cup of tea) but if you are wild and crazy.....Senor Frogs and Fat Tuesdays will be your second home there.
