I was wondering if anyone makes their own furniture such as couches/sofas or chairs? What kind of wood is used in making the frames for couches and do you have any links to plans for making them? Thanks for any advice :)

Not making any at the moment but have made quite a lot in the past. Most furniture framing is made from oak, some from ash or hickory. All of these are hardwoods, which, when dried and milled hold whatever shape you either carve, bend or manipulate them into for the final end product, without warping or shrinking enough to cause a problem. As for plans, do a google search for furniture plans and you'll probably have more links than you can browse in a day. Good luck. Woodoworking has given me more hours of relaxation and satisfaction than anything else I can think of.

Cheap, fast does not necessarly mean healthy. Do you really want to compromise your health for fast and cheap? When your sick and cannot recover as quick because you have not been eating the proper vitamins/minerals or have decent concentration, is it worth it. Any thing that is planted and grows. Vegetables, fruits, dairy, Smoothies with protein powder added (you need a blender for that). You can create your own stir frys. Not only if you take the time to cook for yourself, you will develope new ways to add on to what you know, rather than becoming a microwave junkie. Get a cook book for healthy dining and on the weekends spend a few hours makeing a big batch of foods you like, portion them and freeze them for on the go times. Compliment them with salats or have a salat as a meal in itself. A healthy body would = a healthy mind. So you will do fine.

I suggest you use a hardwood such as Ash, Oak, or maybe Poplar for the frame work of sofas and covered furniture. Check out the woodworking sites on the web for free plans.
