it's alright.. depending on what you want it for, i'd suggest upgrading memory to 512 minimum. nothing mentioned about hard drive space or optical drive.. didn't specify what it's good for, if you got it for a hundred bucks, yeah.. more details plz..

These people don't know what they're talking about.....
Whether it's a good computer or not depends on what you're going to be using it for. If you're only planning on surfing the internet, instant messaging, or utilities such as word processor, Excel, Powerpoint, etc, then it will do what you need it to do. If you're planning on playing any games or running any video editing software, however, you'll need a video card and AT LEAST another stick of RAM, the more the merrier, I suggest another stick of 512 mb. 2.4 GHZ for a pentium is a bit slow nowadays, but that can be compensated for with a faster video card. All of the large computer manufacturers generally put the same hardware in their machines, so your Dell 2.4 GHZ is basically the same as a Compaq 2.4 GHZ. The next time you feel like you need a computer, look into building your own. It's much easier than it sounds; insert motherboard, hard drive, and cd drive into case, insert RAM into motherboard, install an operating system, load drivers, and you're done. You can get twice the computer for less that what you'd normally pay for a pre-built one, and you will have that much more knowledge about what's in your box and how to fix it when something goes awry.

Add another 256 MB stick of RAM at the very least. Going to 1 gig of total RAM would be even better.

The amount of RAM is low enough to cause system performance issues. If you don't have a dedicated video card then even more so.
If your looking to upgrade I would throw in a stick of RAM, 512MB and bring it up to 768. You will see a significant jump in performance. After that if you have built in video, I would try to get a dedicated video card, that will take some of the strain off of your CPU.
RAM first, Video second. But all in all a decent machine.

It sounds like a good computer, just depends on what you are going to use it for. I would recommend upgrading the RAM to at least 512 MB.

Not really. I got rid of my Dell after a year cause it was a piece of junk. They make all these cool ads but their products have some serious issues. Out of 5 people I know with computers and have had Dells, none of us replaced our Dell with another one. Sorry, maybe you'll have better luck.
