sounds to me like a monkey sitting on a porch
but many use it as slang (and not a nice one at that) for black people.

It's a derogatory term used towards African Americans. Case and point, years ago I was sitting with my then fellow Army comrades who all happen to be white (or Caucasian, whichever you prefer). We were drinking and having a good time until one of them asked me "What are your plans for the summer you little porch monkey?" It was my first time hearing the term and I immediately felt degraded and disrespected, the guys face was as red as a beet and his teeth clamped down so tight I thought they would crack lol! The highest ranking non commissioned officer told the guy to stop, but looking back, I don't think it was out of any empathy, but because it was his responsibility. Needless to say, I'm out of the military now! YESSSSS!!!!

I never even heard of it until I saw Clerks 2.
I would have said it was kids playing on the porch--like rug rats but outside. I didn't know it was a derogatory term for black people.

An obnoxious kid. I'd never heard the racist use, either.
