it seems like every year or two a top round pick gets hurt bad in training camp/preseason... and could really screw a team if you draft early... do you think it's wise to draft with a month before the season starts?

I think a week is better personally... what do you guys think?

Like you said do the draft within 1 week in the REGULAR SEASON because you dont know who get hurt in traing Camp like just today Tedy Bruschi fractured his wrist. And you find out who gets the starting spots on teams.

It's not the best idea. drafting early gives you advantage in the off-season to study your players, trade them, or sign free agents. It also give you time to study rookies from training camp. You can sign them, if you like them. But you are right. some players get injured in camp. their position might even be taken. Chicago's running back, Cedric Benson, stole star, Thomas Jones', position. drafting early will be good for some and devastating for other.

There is always the risk of injury, be it pre-season or regular season. So by drafting early one is taking a gamble. But at least that person is on even terms with the other teams in his league --- they are taking that same chance.
