I was giving serious thought to the U.S.national issue of obesity and I realized we have never considered an effort to increase the size, density and volume of the everyday objects surrounding us.
This would provide the obese among us with an opportunity to fit in and feel comfortable.

I agree that if our country is going to continue to get bigger, we need to accommodate the people living in it.

Obesity is a disease. I don't hear anyone dogging out other people w-diseases or handicaps. It's not always because someone over-eats that makes them obese, as some people stated. Even so, that is mental-weakness/handicap. Obesity has several factors. Genetic make-up plays a large part when it comes to obesity and the cause of it. Lifestyle is also a factor, among laziness and lack of exercise. Depression can also lead to over-eating.

FACTS: 58 million American adults aged 20 through 74 are overweight. According to data from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III)
Obesity is a known risk factor for diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, gallbladder disease, arthritis, breathing problems, and some forms of cancer.
P.S.
There are diseases & medications that can cause obesity too, for all you inconsiderate jerks out there! My friend was skinny before she got Lupus. I also have a cousin on seizure med.s that made her gain 100 lbs.!

People need to be less judgmental and more compassionate & understanding!

I can appreciate your concern that others feel like they fit into society. Your resolution, to a lesser extent, could help those that society sees as "obese" but are not in any health danger.

Anyone that is obese or morbidly obese is putting their lives at serious danger and need to seek competent medical attention. Weight loss is not easy and often needs the help of professionals.

The best thing you can do is make sure your friends know that you value them for the person in the inside and not the outside. Don't harrass them about losing weight... but be there to support them when they are ready to make their own decision.

Anyone would be lucky enough to have a friend as concerned as you are.

It's already been done.

In clothing for instance, a female size 12 now was actually a size 16 about 5 years ago. Furniture has increased in size and strength to compensate. We know food portions have grown in size. Hospitals now have larger beds for the obese as well as wheelchairs. What did you think the king size boom was all about?

Manufacturers aren't stupid. They know Americans are not only getting more obese, but people in general have gotten progressively larger due to better health-care and nutrition.

Well there are a lot of businesses/companies who are making changes to accommodate people who are obese, but if the whole world were to change it would be like accepting obesity as a way of life instead of a disease. Obesity is a problem, and people who are obese need to be treated so that they can be healthy. I do not believe that it is okay to scrutinize people just because they are overweight/obese but it should be looked at as a health problem, and the world can't make everything bigger it is overpopulated, and crowded the way it is now.

Don't you think that the money that would be spent to increase the "size, density and volume of everyday objects" would be better spent on efforts to encourage people to lose weight? Possibly offering free memberships to YMCA & YWCA organizations or free counseling on nutrition and weight loss offering free nutritional foods for that purpose. Or offering discounted fees for beriatric surgery. Obesity is a disease. It can kill a person. Why promote obesity by making it easier for a person to be obese?

Great concept! But we could start out slowly with a "Hefty World" like Disneyland, couldn't we? And maybe a "Tubby Town" for the kiddies? The food and everything else in these places would be super max size. You know, I think you've got an idea whose time has come. Now if you can only get a bunch of wealthy people of size to back you. I know, Jerry Falwell, then we could tie it in with a Christian theme!

HAHA so what do you suggest we super size everything for the obese? How about an extra large swinging door for that one 900 lbs women that cant squeeze through the normal door. Or Giant airballoons full of obese people traveling to and fro so they can live in comfort and luxury.

well actually it was much debated, but the amount of money that would need to be spent to accommodate those who are slightly more obese, apparently just wasn't worth it..movie theaters for instance would either end up with less seating, or have to expand the size of the building it's self. that's why all the campaigns to loose weight, so that the government doesn't need to "waist there time, energy and money on a fruitless project." instead the money is waisted on trying to help those who need it lose the weight.q

What a$$holes like Jason S don't realize is some of us "fat" people can't help it. Some of us actually have diseases that have made us this way! In highschool and about a year after I was skinny. Since then (I'm 24 now) I've gained 150 pounds due to a disease. i'm on medicine but it's not doing to much. Think before you speak a$$holes!

Well I guess according to the way things are going then yes, the obese should get a chance to have things to fit for them. maybe the fact that they're not doing anything about it shows that they think that instead of people being unfit and/ or overweight then they should be able to work on their weight and become slimmer and capable to do things they couldn't before.
