Unfortunately, they are kind of important at first. It's what you look at before you get to know someone. It causes an initial attraction. After that, it's not that important. Who they are and the kind of person they are is what really matters. When I first saw my husband I thought "what a hottie" then when I got to know him it didn't matter if he was having a bad hair day because I love him.

For men, physical eroticism is the first thing that attracts our attention. Once a man is "dating" you, it becomes more like 40% of the issue, 60% being personality. However, the percentage rises again when marriage becomes a factor/question.
So, to answer your question, looks are not critically important WHEN DATING, but they do again become very important later when the next step is considered.

Very important the better you look the more dates you will get. Remember the first part of dating is meeting someone then you get to know each other. Ugly = very few dates.

Looks are relative to the person looking. But attraction is very important, though can become less important as you get to know the person.

Looks are very important to me when it comes to dating, because I am a sexy, young, black female and I want my man to be just as good-looking as I am. He can be the nicest, sweetest person I have ever seen, but if I'm not physically attracted to him, I'm not INTERESTED!! so looks to me are VERY IMPORTANT!

Beauty and attractiveness is in the eyes of the beholder. It's basically to each own what looks good to one might not look good to another.
It really depends on what your looking for in a mate. If you want beauty and no brains then you go for that. If you want beauty and brains you go for that .
Looks can be the reason a person is attracted to you so it really is up to the individual what qualities they want in a person and basically what makes them personally happy.

I'd be lying if I said they weren't important. But I think what it boils down to is what you personally find attractive. They don't have to be good looking to other people but if you like them so be it.

its really important. as you meet the person, first you got to have chemistry, and that mostly happens if that person looks good.
