It was impossible to stop Skynet because it wasn't in a mainframe, but on the internet. Therefore, John Connor and his GF couldn't stop it and her Father knew it and sent them to a place where they could survive the blast from the nuclear war.

The machines were about to take over the world And John and Hiwife were suddenly in the best place to run everything, a bunker with antiquated communications to the rest of the world.
