I had a car accident, no injuries, no other cars involved, in 2000. I have gone every three months to try and obtain my driver's license/permit and every time the DMV tells me that I can't get it without SR22 Insurance. So I go to all my local and online Ins Companies, and they tell me, without a car, it will be at least $400 per month, and it must be for one full year, before it would go down. I can't purchase a car without my driver's license and insurance. Unless someone knows another way around this, my only option is to find someone who would put my name on the title of their car, which ain't gonna happen.

Sorry, Ins Advisor, I have to list a vehicle, which I don't have.

BrownTown, In the State of Alaska, you must have your driver's license with insurance. The problem is, if you don't own a vehicle, the insurance companies charge an arm and a leg. I am 25, I had a car accident in 2000. I've been pulled over for speeding twice, and I have to have a SR22 to obtain my license. I can't afford $400 or something a month for SR22. To purchase a vehicle in the state of alaska from a dealership, you must provide insurance and a driver's license. Now does everyone see my problem?

I would ride the bus or pay a taxi before I would let the insurance co's rob me without a gun.

first off what state are you in? DMV laws vary from state to state.
Second this site explains sr22 very well http://www.carinsurance.com/kb/content10055.aspx
Third yes you can purchase a vehicle without a license or insurance unless you are going to finance it. I have done it several times.
Fourth based on the information I got about the SR22 I suspect this isn't your only accident, you are under 25, or you haven't had your license that long. Due to the accident this means that your insurance premiums will remain high because you have been placed in the risk pool. Welcome to responsibility, enjoy it, and drive more carefully.

Why would you need insurance to have a license? That doesn't make sense.
