I had sod put down 2 years ago, now my lawn looks and feels like a minefield - little dirt mounds everywhere, fresh ones after a rain - I was told I have an earthworm problem - how do I get rid of them?

Get GRUBX , a granulated yard treatment that you apply midsummer to control grubs . You have grubs, the larvae of all sorts of beetles. Moles and voles love them, and will tear up your yard looking for them. To deter the moles and voles, try Victor brand poison peanuts. They also do not like the underground sound of yard pinwheels. There are also metal mole traps. Please do not do anything to hurt the worms. they are the good guys.

There is no such thing as an earthworm problem. Earthworms maintain your soil, ingesting decayed material and enriching the soil with castings. In other words, if you get rid of the earthworms you get rid of the lawn. Castings left by earthworms are small and usually not noticeable. If you take a picture of your problem and link it to your question maybe someone will recognize your pest and tell you what to do.

Earthworms are wonderful and fertilize and aerate the soil. Get an inscetiable soap. I would take a soil sample to the extention service near you. Look in the phone book. Maliathion will also help. But think twice before getting rid of earth worms.

Earthworms are good. You want them in your dirt. They wouldn't make a mound large enough to see if you had sod. They only show up in plain dirt. And it's a mighty small mound indeed. Perhaps you have moles? I would recommend a cat for this problem. (if it is moles)
:) It works for us.

If you know a serious fisherman, I'm sure he/she would love to hunt them down for you.

You know, don't you? that earthworms are beneficial, in that they sift through the earth and so air flows freely.
