i have a doubel sink one side drains the other does not this side has a garbage disposal the water only drains after i turn on disposal , the pipes are metal not copper , each sink has its own set of pipes . its a problem because i wanted to install new diswasher and cant as theres no drainage please help house built in 70's .

u need to remove the metal pipes and install plastic pipes... to do this u will need a 1 1/2 fernco coupling and a master trap as well as a garbage disposal waste kit.cut the metal pipe at the wall and install the fernco. then add the trap adapter to the fernco.( it comes with the master trap) remove the metal pipe from the disposal and the other side. this is where u will install the disposal waste kit.. after that install the master trap or p trap and your done.... if this is confusing... call a plumber... good luck

Sometimes the garbage from the garbage disposal fills up the drain line and clogs it. You should unplug the electric on your garbage disposal, remove the connection to the drain, remove the disposal (to get it out of your way) and run a snake down the drain line to clear it. Reassemble and everything should be fine.

First, turn off the water. Take the disposal off, clean the pipe trap. If that doesnt work, get a pipe snake. If that sounds too daunting, call a plumber.
