Has anyone ever heard that a foot message could bring on a miscarrage? I heard this from 2 message theripist but nothing is stated about it in my pregnancy book.

I have heard of it...there is a nerve or something that can cause you to go into early labor. Most massage parlors won't massage a pregnant woman's feet or legs.

It's called reflexology and it similar to acupuncture, but instead of using needles on the pressure points, merely pressure and massage is used.

The idea is that certain points correspond to certain places in the body. The points in the foot that may have an effect on the uterus, back and pelvic area include the inside heel, the heel end of arch of the foot. However, relexology and stimulation of these points is achieved by applying firm pressure for a period of time, a quick rub from your husband probably isn't going to effect anything.

Personally, I had acupuncture done inserting long needles on all these points twice a week to try to start my labor as I was miserable with my overdue 9 lb son - but it didn't do a thing except start a few contractions that petered out after a few minutes. But maybe others are more sensitive!

Yes, I too am a massage therapist, and there are points in your feet (reflexology, or zonology) that correspond with every organ and part of your body. Including your uterus....If someone doesn't know what they are doing they can put you into labor, or miscarriage. ALTHOUGH! I have to say, that even knowing what I'm doing...I have had friends that were like 38 or 39 weeks, that wanted me to try to put them into labor...and hun, if you're not ready you won't go. As far as miscarriage, they'd really have to work the specific points and concentrate on them....I've never heard of it actually happening, they just warned us about it in massage school. If you are talking about a foot massage from a friend, or untrained professional, I wouldn't worry about it! Chances are, the points that are dangerous won't even be worked, and if they are, they would hurt, so you wouldn't have them worked long enough to make a difference. Any more specific questions, feel free to email me - bgregory14@yahoo.com. Best wishes!

There is a thing called reflexology on which the foot is mapped out as to connections with the rest of the body. Some of these spots may have labor inducing characteristics. Common nerves to both areas. I wouldn't worry, massage away.

Yes, it's possible. A reflexologist will tell you that there are places on the foot (and other parts of the body) that when stimulated can release oxytocin, the hormone that triggers labor.

When I was 4 months pregnant with my first baby I was visiting Las Vegas and went for a massage at the hotel spa. They gave me what they called a "pregnancy massage." It wasn't very intense and they stayed far far away from my feet.
