My mailperson is not lazy. In fact, he works very hard. My mail is always delivered at the same time everyday and he puts rubber bands around my mail to keep it together. Maybe you just wound up with one that has a poor work ethic.

Sometimes the job can be a little stressful. Especially for the mail carriers who have to walk to every single mailbox to deliver the mail in all kinds of weather or have to come in contact with animals.
The ones who drive the mail truck sometimes get tired of having to drive around cars parked in front of the mailbox or having to park their truck and get out.
There are a lot of other reasons but postal workers are no lazier than any other employee in other professions. There is always one bad grape in every bunch.
