I don't think there's a seperation between spiritual and material. We have a physical body so cannot be totally spirit (ual). What we need to do is apply the spiritual to the concrete things and experiences around us.
If you consider that spirit energy is eternal but the material world arounds us changes, then problems and material things don't seem so important. If you try to put ego aside and try and act in ways that are more loving and selfless rather than just pursuing your own goals (as we are encouraged to do), if you delight in the detail of nature and the simplicity of life, then I believe you will find life more pleasurable.

First, you have to have discipline in order to understand your spirtual being, considering that most people have been raised in the flesh and the worldly ways. Then you have to learn to find other projects or events that will help you keep in line with what it is that you are seeking.

Once you find those events you will begin to fellowship with others that are on the same path as you or at least looking for the same things, that will lead to eventually losing contact with so many of the outside things that can take your focus away from your spiritual goals. To enjoy the spiritual is a lot harder than it is to enjoy the material but it is also a much better benefit to learn the spiritual and focus.

Have you ever prayed so hard that you were exhausted, and the prayer was not for something tht was on this earth. It could have been for something like peace of mind. But you put your entire heart into it. The feeling that you get when you do that is nothing like anything that you can do. It really does lift a burden off of your heart, and your body just feels so refreshed when you pour your energy into something like that.

I and my sister had a prayer session one day, and by the time we finished I was weeping, it was just awesome. And the tears were not from guilt or unhappiness, it was like I was being transformed with everyword that I uttered.

That was my pleasure.

I am just getting tired of answering the obvious. Can you just tell how much pleasure you get out of expending your money on silly things you do not actually need. Is it not true you never get what you want this way?. When you buy fancy clothes for you, are you not after the recognition of other humans beings, which is a spiritual thing? The problem seems to be the fact you are not so willing to expose your true self to friendship; this is why you prefer to show yourself in the form, the appearance, so that other people can judge you by what you look like instead of what you are able to say.

For humans, the deepest and most lasting form of pleasure is satisfaction with and pride in oneself. This is more likely to come from a rich spiritual than, say, a complete collection of Furby dolls, or even an ice-cream sundae.

There is supposed to be pleasure in spiritual things, but in a different way. It's called JOY.
The only way we can do this is if we have a change of heart and DESIRE to do what is right and never desire to do what is wrong.
And remember, to God ALL things are spiritual, even though he is not just a spirit himself.

There is not supposed to be pleasure in spiritual things. Its the flesh agaist the spirit. That's the whole point of religion to restrict the beast within. I want to have sex with many women i want to take what doesn't belong to me i want to kill those i hate but i don't and wont..Because of the concept of right and wrong remorse God religion.. Is religion supposed to be fun NO!!! It supposed to suck!! Everyone knows that

by trying to not be so extravagant in your wants. it isn't a sin or crime to buy yourself something nice once in a while, but some people are obssesed with making money and spending it. we shouldn't be so worried about making money, because that makes us want things and creates a greater distance between us and our spirituality. we should try to find happines and joy in simpler things.
