It's like, they could even be younger than you, and they could still act like you're their puppy or something! It's really annoying. I think it might give them an idea that they have some sense of authority, but it doesn't! If you're one of those people, please tell me why, otherwise, just answer my question.

Yes, it is so annoying. I think it gives them a sense of power and authority. If a woman calls me "Hun", I immediately don't like them. Sorry, that's just the way I am.

I don't mind the short version of "Honey" as much as you do, but it all depends on what context it's in. If it's in a sarcastic or condescending tone, especially from a stranger, I'm every bit as peeved as you are. I'll give an annoyed look the first time. From the second time on, I'll call her "Hon" in between every third word and be twice as sarcastic and/or condescending. By then, I don't usually care what this person thinks of me. She obviously doesn't care what I think of her.

I say "she" and "her" because any guy that would ever call me "Hon" is probably just a waiter in a restaurant who isn't exactly offended by being called "she" or "her." To each his or her own. Just don't go camping with them, especially in a pup tent.

However, if the person who calls me "Hon" is a sexy female stranger, she can probably talk me into anything short of buying her a house: "Hi, Hon, my car just broke down and I need a ride back home to Argentina. All I've got is this big old trunk and this bloody axe. You don't mind stopping off at this little place in West Virginia on the way down, do you, Hon?"
"Sure. No problem. I'll get the trunk for you, darlin'. Gee, this thing sure is heavy!"

Now, the one that annoys the living crap out of me is the guy who always calls me "son." Especially when the guy is young enough to be my son. Then I want to put a boot up his *$$ and call him "Grampa."

It's a south thing-definitely.

I'm not personally annoyed by it, but I don't like it when it's said in the wrong way or all the time.

the thing i hate is the 45yr old dude i work with calling me "sis".....bloghk!

yes, he gets under my skin cuz he says it like i'm stupid "no, sis, you need to ......." and he's not my boss! I'm higher upthan he is!

So yeah, when "hun" is used like that, it's annoying!

I don't hate them, but I do find it strange when someone calls a person older than themselves, "hun"... maybe its a mental disorder???

I hope not - I call all women "hun" (lower case h, upper case would like a German)

Yes. Deeply annoying. I also hate being called "lady" when I'm only 24. Barf.

I actually like when people say stuff like that, because they care. Especially guys, because it means they aren't being macho and their ego isn't in the way they care about you. Unless they are being sarcastic. Then it bothers me.

It's a south thing, or someone who just likes the sound of it and does it themselves. I actually think it's cool.

Well, hon, i think it's just a term of endearment. I don't think there's anything to be offended or bothered by hon. Have a great day hon!!! ; )

well, there are some people who can, like older women who are the kind, motherly types, but others, like fat guys who are just trying to hit on you... its really annoying.
