It is normally applied directly to the inside of the glass window. The directions state that it should not be applied to plexiglass. Does anyone know why? I have a skylight that lets in too much sunlight and I would like to block some of the sunlight coming in. Will the film adhere to the plexiglass or damage it?

No it clouds the plexiglass over time and turns it yellow. Also, because plexi is plastic polymers you cannot remove the film without damaging the surface.

What you can do is box in the skylight just enough to hang plain glass below the plexiglass. Apply the sunscreen first (it's much easier) then hang the glass. A quality sunscreen will also have the added benefit of reflecting some of the heat back into the room during the winter. If you leave a 1/4" gap between the glass and the plexi you are also essentially adding to the insulation value - much like a storm window. If that does not appeal to you and your skylight is the kind that opens and has a screen, you can buy solar screening which also does a very good job on blocking a lot of the heat as well as some of the sun.
