Having lived in MTL for 6 years and visiting it every summer, it is one of my favorite place. Unlike most people think, MTL doesn't treat English speakers that bad, I've spoken English their all over and everyone is nice to me even though I'm quite fluent in French also...I like to mix it up :D. The locals are very cool and laid back, not uptight like many here in the U.S. You can't beat the architecture of the city; just beautiful. Where else in America can you get the European feel mixed with modern America? And the bars, cafe lounges, clubs, restos, pool halls are really nice...pretty much you can find a joint on any street to hang out. Also can't beat the summer festivals, I don't think there are any cities like MTL in the summer from June to August...festivals after festivals. Also the night life, I love the night life in MTL, unlike where I live where most places closes at 12-1am, downtown MTL especially St-Cathrine, Peel, St-Laurent, Cresent etc etc a lot of places stay open way into the early hours 3-4am. And some Chinese restos stays open that late...nothing like Chinese or Vietnamese food at 3am after long night of drinking and karaoke, alot better than the only choices I have here at home..Mcdo and Wendys drive through errrr LOL

I loved Montreal. Great food, great people, great clubs. The city has a great spirit to it as do many of it's residents. It's very metro, and fast paced. Fashion is obviously a much bigger there than out west, but I loved seeing people who were fashion forward. I lived and studied there for a few months. The only things I disliked:
1) was that some french speakers would become angered if we tried to speak french to them. They probably thought we were butchering it (and we probably were...we were there studying french) so they would curtly move to speaking english.
2) I didn't like walking home one night to see 'death to anglophones' graffiti on the side of a building.
3) I got lost one evening coming home and asked a francophone if she could help me get to the metro station. I understood what she said 100% so I didn't misunderstand what she said, but she sent me in the total opposite direction of the metro station.
Overall though, I love Montreal. Vive le Montreal!
*edit*
Miro, I'm in the Edmonton area, and I agree! We're so much slower paced than Montreal, and you're right about the loitering! It's getting scarier everyday!

I love Montreal. They have great strip clubs on St. Catherines, and great old town style in the old part of montreal. Gambling also. The women are hot too. Great town al-in-all! Ohe yeah, Canadians also have the best beer. The only problem I have is that many people only prefer to speak French and refuse to have a conversation with us Americans in English as most Americans do not speak French.

Montreal is one of my favorite cities in the world. People are very friendly, as with the rest of Canada. Your subway system is one of the best I've been on and the whole city is cosmopolitan and very very unique. I love Montreal! Even the weather I like. And Tim Horton's Donuts.

I live in Edmonton and what I loved about Montreal is that nobody loiters, you know, nobody stands around. I felt really safe in most areas because people were just going about their business. In Edmonton lots of people loiter everywhere, like the mall, downtown, etc and it gets kind of shady. I like that in Montreal everyone seemed like they had a purpose and they were polite but not worried about what everyone else was doing. Maybe it is because there is more for people to do in Montreal? I like Edmonton, but that's just my thought.

I love all the cities of Canada including Montreal and it's people except for the French language. Is this really a language ? Well, for me it sounds like pig's grunt - so..so.. n fo.. fo.. what the hell is that? The father of French language must have been infected with pig's disease for sure. It's not a pleasant language at all. Sorry, but I am being honest to you.
