Auto mechanics and insurance companies do it to people all of the time....cheaper paint with no flux, cheap parts from junkyards. Even the well known insurance companies do it. Nobody is immune from these assholes.

Yes. I put some money into some stock with a well known broker and one day and I had a certain am mount going directly from my bank account each month. This guy never bought the stock, just told everyone not to sell and then one day he just left. Ever since then I have been extra careful. I haven't had much trouble at stores or gas stations and such, mainly because the workers don't care to cheat you because they don't get anything if they do but with repair shops I have. I went to get a safety check once and they told me that my break light was out as well as my turn signal and it would cost 40 dollars because of the time it would take to replace the bulb. I told him that my husband had just checked the car before I left and everything was fine and I got out and checked it and miraculously nothing was wrong. I was so annoyed.

I have been ripped off by employers who didn't want to give me my last paycheck when they went out of business. Fortunately they were part time jobs. As part of my benefits of my real job I have a lawyer on retainer. They dealt with the problem rather quickly while my own efforts lasted three weeks.
