One can only assume you are wondering what the thermostat in the cooling system does. It starts off closed to allow your automobile to get to operating temperature faster. As it makes the preset temperature, it opens and allows water from the radiator to circulate into the engine, maintaining the operating temperature.

checks the tempeature of the car, make sure the car is not over heating. you need a thermostat, that is working corretly or you may find yourself leaving a trail of smoke behind you

change your thermostat thats why your gauge is getting on the hot side. even though u didnt ask now you know.... write that down!
