This depends on ur computer's processing speed. I suggest you to use free AVG antivirus software. U can download it from www.grisoft.com I also suggest you to visit http://safety.live.com (Microsoft's online scan for viruses, spywares, trojans etc.) and run a "Full Service Scan". Products sold in the market doesnt guarantee what is required out of them. These are reliable sources and i personally use them and keep my laptop threat free. I have also downloaded Windows Defender (Microsoft) for spywares and Lavasoft Adaware for adwares (www.lavasoft.com). In addition, i also download and install security updates from Windows updates website (Microsoft). They may be too much for you but they will not affect ur computer's speed. I assure you that.

The best thing you can go is have 2 different antivirus on your computer. Each antivirus has its advantages and its weaknesses. Some of you will say, "its not good to have 2 antiviruses on your computer" Well you're wrong, some do not work well with each other and some like each other. McAfee and AVG work well with each other. I know cause I work in the IT department and thats what I have on my computer at home.

Personally, I don't use Norton anynmore.. it's too invasive and almost impossible to undelete. I sell computers and there are a couple of ones people really like. One is AVG (free) which people rave about. As far as Pay ones, the most popular are Norton and McAfee - however again, I hear really good things about PCCillin (used to be called Innoculate, I think)..... A good freebee is AVG. Of course, if you have roadrunner, you can download their package for free. I've used it for a few years and never have had a problem.

If you want the BEST, then Sophos.
If you want to be a sheep and believe the hype - get Norton of McAfee - both are FAR to big for their own good, slow down systems & miss a LOT of viruses.
AVG - is a free one, and very good. (Pay for better version)
Zonelabs also do a REALLY good one as part of their Antivirus package - only £10 / $20 a year and it works waaaay better than Norton.

>>>> NOD32 is the BEST
Check the Virus Bulletin reports & scores online and you'll see, NOD32 blows away McAfee, Norton, and all that other bloated crap. Yes, Norton and McAfee are decent, but they aren't great and they slow your entire system down, especially Norton.
NOD32 has the BEST track record of any virus scanner out there. This has been proven many times over.
But if you just want a "decent", free anti-virus, check out AVG from Grisoft.com

Check into Symantec Products (makers of Norton Internet Products - http://www.symantec.com/index.jsp). NIS - Norton Internet Security - is great.
I've never had an issue Norton and it updates automatically.
And it only put a very small icon on right side of the task bar.

Hubby bought a copy of Mcafee, seems quite good,
It was a copy from the original disk, sold on ebay for about £2 instead of £30. Have a look at ebay

hi, perhaps you can try norton or Macfee, these software all need a fee to use..
i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
download firefox for free:

AVG http://www.grisoft.com/
Norton is very intrusive and parks a HUGE icon on your task bar (4 or 5 times the size of any other. It's always causing grief.
