People don't hate Mel Gibson, they just disagree with him. I don't know if he'll be shunned, but he'll probably be hard pressed to find a Jew willing to work with him.

Mel Gibson released a statement today saying, “There is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of anti-Semitic remark. I want to apologize specifically to everyone in the Jewish community for the vitriolic and harmful words that I have said….”

He continued, “The tenets of what I profess to believe necessitate that I exercise charity and tolerance as a way of life. Every human being is God’s child, and if I wish to honor my God I have to honor his children. But please know from my heart that I am not an anti-Semite. I am not a bigot. Hatred of any kind goes against my faith.” Gibson said he now wants to meet one-on-one with leaders in the Jewish community “to discern the appropriate path for healing.”

Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded as follows:

“Mel Gibson’s apology is a model of contrition, and it reflects the genuineness of his faith. Indeed, it stands in stark contrast to the ‘If you were offended’ type of apology that we are so accustomed to at the Catholic League. We trust that most Jewish leaders will now do the honorable thing and work with Mel so that all wounds can heal.

“There will always be those who refuse to forgive. They are a tragic lot. Worse, they are the only losers.”

He gets to visit the Betty Ford Clinic for while. Then if Hollywood shuns him, he buys an island like Australia and lives happily ever after. He has no worries.

There might be some really petty people who will shun him or not work with him. The thing is though, he's got enough money to make any movie he wants and he can pay for it. So I'm guessing he'll be quite alright. Not saying his comments were true or good, but it might be time for people to quit being so sensitive.

I can't believe Mel Gibson would have made those anti-jewish remarks if he didn't really feel that way deep down. He has some serious issues - alcoholism, racism...I know I'll never go to see one of his movies again.

I think his career in Hollywood is over. Hollywood forgives a lot of things, but considering Hollywood's controlled by powerful Jewish men, they're not going to forgive him. They will not fund his projects and they will not make his movies.

He bit the hand that fed him, and that wound won't ever heal.

Sometimes people make plank judgements about
someone without really knowing all the facts.
Mel is now in treatment, so is working on what
he needs to do to heal. I believe his work up this
point was of deserved credit. Unless you walk
in his shoes, who am I to judge.

I never really liked him before because he said some awful homophobic things before. But I still don't like him after his remarks. You can't Racist of homophobic when you're in the Entertainment business.

We are all human and capable of making mistakes. It's also within our ability to forgive. I think he'll overcome. If nothing else, he'll use the publicity to his advantage, as most celebrities do.
