in a word, no.
"terrorism" is a really vague term. really, what is the "terrorist threat"? is it the possibility of any individual carrying out the murder of civilians? if so, it includes cases like the Olklaholma city bombing, and the Beltway sniper attacks. the threat is not exclusively from outside sources.
do you believe that people do not take terrorism seriously? the post-9/11 response was, to say the least, extensive. airport security became satirically thorough, the general public was terrified of further attacks, and foreign policy seemed to be disinterested in anything except terrorism. Two wars begun, first in Afghanistan, and then Iraq. If anything, this reaction was overblown, directed mainly towards issues having no relation whatsoever to the 9/11 attacks.
So, of course terrorism is serious, but all this talk about it being a "new world post-9/11" and "the paradigms have changed" is a lot of malarky. There are no risks that did not exist before. The difference now is that political demagoguery has led the public to believe that terrorism is an urgent, pressing threat which requires "patriotism" (i.e. conformity) for protection. Terrorism is being used as an excuse to revoke the rights and freedoms of Americans. This, I think, is the most serious problem stemming from terrorism.

Unfortunately if Americans don't wake up, as we have fallen back to sleep since 9/11, it will probably culminate in a nuclear devise being set off in America and or Israel.
In such a case the problem will solve itself as the whole world will erupt into an all out war in which totally victory will be the only goal. The only problem to this solution is the immense cost. I hope people figure this out before it is too late.
A good place to start researching is to see why these Terrorist are doing what they are doing. Hint, it has something to do with a religious point of view. If we do not address the problem at the root, it may not be today, tomorrow, or the next, but eventually it will come to our shores, again, escalating into larger manifestations than 9/11.

Yes, we probably do. And whether we need it or not, it'll be here sooner or later. Unfortunately, the chances are that the next time it will have a significant nuclear component.
I'm not just some chicken little here, either. A quick review of the facts regarding the increased commitment terrorists have to doing something in our country, the porousness of our borders and ports and the fact that nuclear material and know-how are available from an unprecedentedly wide range of countries and organizations (the principles being North Korea and A.Q. Khan/Pakistan) almost guarantees something will happen.
Will it wake us up? Temporarily, perhaps. The sad truth is that the next 9/11 will kill many, many more of us than the first one did.
I live in L.A. and frankly, I think we're next on the hit list, thanks in part to the large ports here and the accessibility to the Mexican border that can't keep unarmed and illiterate farm workers out much less determined and well financed terrorists.

There is no such thing as terrorism in this world. Everyone's human and everyone has at least 1 good quality and at least 1 bad quality. It's f*****g Bush who keeps pissing those Islamic groups off and that is the reason why they get on their shoes to fight back. Jews and Americans are using their power completely to attack those powerless innocent countries, and killing innocent citizens.
They don't give a damn if 400 Lebanese die, yet it hurts them that 50 Israelees are getting bombed. One day all this power will be taken away from them naturally if they keep using it to kill innocent people.

Not sure what you're getting at... but... It's going to happen again, and it's not from outside sources.

I think we're more concerned with our incompetent government, and their involvement in terrorism. Seems like we're the biggest terrorists around.
and, VerdeOjos, you're just too nieve to believe that we're not bombing other countries for freedom. We're bombing for oil. Why did we go to Afghanistan after the 9/11 murders? hm? Because of oil. Why are we in Iran? Oil. Why do we pay outrageous prices for gas? Because the oil moguls made an unprecedented amount of money, 70 BILLION dollars in profit (and then some), in one year?? Quit being obtuse!!!

The people that do not believe terrorism is serious now still will not if there is a second attack. There are people that believe that it is our fault; that we brought it upon ourselves.
But most people here do believe terrorism is serious and that it is a long and hard battle.

No we dont.
What we need is the government to actually do something other than point fingers at who dropped the ball in the first place and then go with the intel we have and assainate everyone of them we find.
