I think 1996 is the best year ...songs like "What if God was one of U.S.", "Gangsta Paradise", Wonderwall by Oasis, Brain Stew by Green Day, etc etc

All good answers. In the past few years I was afraid my favorite genre, Modern/ Alt Rock was going extinct, but there are some good songs in rotation now, like Rooftops by Lost Phrophets, Vicarious by Tool, and Through the Glass by Stonesour. But still, music today seems more 'recycled' and less original than mid 90's stuff
I feel that Kelly Clarkson is a breath of fresh air in pop music. Dito Michelle Branch & Avril Lavergne, all of whom are real singer/ song writer types. We could use more like them. They aren't just a pretty face lip sing to a beat created by a dum machine

I think the early 80's were an awesome time for music and the worst was probably the late 90's when boy bands dominated the charts.

i like stuff from the 70s. some early 80s. and the 90s. i love the 90s. i mean, come on, matchbox 20, the goo goo dolls, blink182, green day, third eye blind, etc. etc.
but music now is gettin kinda crappy. i mean, there's good music around, but you really have to look.
