I think 1996 is the best year ...songs like "What if God was one of U.S.", "Gangsta Paradise", Wonderwall by Oasis, Brain Stew by Green Day, etc etc

All good answers. In the past few years I was afraid my favorite genre, Modern/ Alt Rock was going extinct, but there are some good songs in rotation now, like Rooftops by Lost Phrophets, Vicarious by Tool, and Through the Glass by Stonesour. But still, music today seems more 'recycled' and less original than mid 90's stuff
I feel that Kelly Clarkson is a breath of fresh air in pop music. Dito Michelle Branch & Avril Lavergne, all of whom are real singer/ song writer types. We could use more like them. They aren't just a pretty face lip sing to a beat created by a dum machine
