Yes, there are Florida black bears. They are small compared with grizzlies, but I still would not want to tangle with one. Take a look at the link to see a Florida bear and other native Florida wild life.

There are bears in the Everglades but they are rare. You will see plenty of alligators in Florida. Be careful of them. They may look asleep but if you get too close, they will attack. Several people get maimed or killed each year by 'gators.

The University of Florida Gators used to be feared when they were coached by Steve Spurrier. Now the Gators should be hiding in the Everglades with the bears.

Yes, I have actually seen a black bear in the forest when I was traveling through from Ocala to the east coast. Was sorta cool, I was on a long stretch of road and a couple mile up the road I saw something start to cross the road, and thought at first that was a really big dog, but as I got closer you saw that it was a small black bear. He just sat on the side of the road as I was passing...Thankfully I didn't break down!

There are black bears that live in the woods, more in the central and northern parts of the state. Not a whole lot of them but they do come out every once in a while.

I live on Amelia Island in North FL and a couple years back a black bear was seen on the beach here...the locals named him Walter. So yes there are bears in FL.
