About 2 weeks ago I sent out my resume for a job I really want. That same day we had a storm come through that knocked out power for almost a week in some places. I want to find out if they recieved my resume. Should I call? I don't want to call and look like a dumba$$ if they did get it and weren't interested in me. What should I do?

In this case, I think you should definately send another resume. Just to be sure. In the second cover letter, say you wanted to make sure that they received your resume due to the power outage, and you are extremely interested in the position. Not only does it show that you are interested in the company, and the company's welfare, but it also keeps your name on top.
If you decide to call, just verify that your resume was received. You should receive some type of postcard, or letter stating that your resume was received.
Coming from experience, it's hard to say what to do in certain situations. Some employers hate the phone calls, because they don't want to talk to the "potentials". Some employers use the phone call as a "test" to see who is really interested. It just all depends.
Please also keep in mind that power was knocked out for more than a week, therefore this company may have been out of power, or lost some valuable time getting things done in the office, or what not, so the hiring process may have slowed down, so the employees can catch up.
Good luck, and always do what you think is right. Not what others have told you. You will know if you need to call.

Most serious employers think that a phone call in any situation is lazy. So as a rule of thumb I always send a follow up letter a week after I have sent my resume. Simply stating that you are following up, still interested and available if they have any questions about your resume. If you did not send references the first time, send those now as any extra boost. If they did not receive it the first time I'm sure they'll be interested by your followup and call to ask you to send your resume this second time. In any event even if you are going to resend your resume, fax it again, don't call.

You could not look like a Dumba$$ .... you are trying to help that company out with what you have to offer.
You should wait one week from the time you sent then call to inquire when they will be making a decision on the position.
and if they have your resume and will be considered for the position.

If there is any way for you to go in person then do it. I used to work in human resources and we would pull the applications of people who called and put them in a pile of people that we would not consider for the position. We believed that if they couldn't put forth the effort just to come in then they were probably the same way in other aspects of their life. Bring your resume with you and explain that there was a power outage and you wanted to be sure they got your resume. If they did...great! Now you introduced yourself and they will probably remember you. If they didn't get it then you have it with you to give to them. Either way, it is always better to go in person rather than calling. If there is no way for you to go in then call. It's better for you to follow up on it regardless. If they didn't get it...fax it again. No big deal. Remember, you really won't get the job if they never got the resume so you may as well see. Good luck!

Call them. Let them know you're interested in the job and explain that you wanted to make sure they got your resume because of the power outtage. They like that, it shows your character and that you follow through.

Resend the fax and on the cover letter explain that this is the 2nd fax you submitted but due to power outage you don't know if you were called for the interview. Also mention that you really want this job.

call and say I submitted a resume two weeks ago and you were just following up on the status of your application or resume and to confirm that it was recv'd
Theres nothing wrong with following up... show your taking initiative

I would resend the resume and then call after a few days to make sure they have it.

Considering the power outage - I don't think a phone call would hurt. Or you could just re-email it. Just state...
I submitted my resume on XYZ, and due to the power outage I am re-submitting to ensure your receipt.

Simlpy call and say you were very interested in the position and you wonder if it has been filled. If they say no, ask if you can
re-sumit your resume. If tehy were not interested in the first place, who cares how you "look" to them
