Add crunches & core strengthening exercises to your daily jog. If you strengthen both your lower back muscles & your abdominals it'll help get you the tight tummy you want.

It just takes time. For someone starting out, one mile could be too much. When I first got into fitness, I started with about 3/4 of a mile and worked my way up to 8 miles a day. I would say about 30 minutes of jogging would be great, and that amounts to about 3 or so miles. Just dont run EVERY day...run for a couple of days, and take a day off. Recovery is important. If you over-do it, your body will cannibalize its muscle tissue, bypassing the fat you want to burn. Eat right, and do some weight training to tone those muscles (like in your tummy and calves) so that when you burn off the fat with your jogging, you'll have uncovered the muscles you desire. Your body will let you know how far you can go.

The common wisdom among those who study such things, is that you should do aerobic exercise for 30 minutes, 3-4 times per week to get maximum benefit.
For most joggers, that would probably somewhere in the 3-3.5 mile2 per day range.
As far as your stomach, I've seen runners who do 40-50 miles a week who don't have a tight stomach. You need to specifically target your abs.

I can run about a 2 to 3 miles with two to three short walking breaks inbetween. I dont do it everyday, in fact I rarely run at all.

2 or 3 miles a day. Gradually increase it to 4 or 5 if you want to. Try to keep your speed constant.

One a day is fine if you're happy with that, but as you get fitter and stronger you can always increase it in half mile increments as and when you wish...remember it won't happen overnight, it's a build up thing, so be patient and don't exceed what you are comfortable with, to prevent possible injuries.

I would start slow................progress everyother day or so.
Ex. Do 1 mile a day for 2 days
Do 2 miles a day for 2 days
And so on until you feel that you have got to a level that is working you out but not killing you.

i am in the us army and we run alot i personally feal the amount we run is a ridiculous amount we run about 5-6 miles 4 times a week i am in the doctor all the time for knee pain back pain and shin pain so my best ad vice to you is dont run till it hurts because that's your body's way of telling you to back off remember to drink plenty of water if your thirsty that means you are dehydrated
