yes you can. Is he on cereal? If not he can have that too. Doctors generally reccomend starting one food at a time to watch for allergic reactions. I think I started my two oldest on baby applesauce. After he has mastered swallowing well you can introduce stuff like crackers/cookies. Vanilla wafers are a good one to start with because the dissolve pretty well. He can also eat mashed potatoes. Or other grown up food you can mash after he learns the baby food. I would go more by him being ready than I would age. Good Luck and have fun. Foods can be messy!

You should certainly be able to! Just make sure you only do one new food at a time, and wait a day or two in between to be sure there is no allergy to it. He may get mad at first since he can't drink the food... he has to learn to switch to spoons. That really frustrated my daughter! But other than jar food, I would stay away from anything else for now. He's still young, finger foods don't come until later. Good luck, and have fun! You're going to discover all kinds of things about your baby when feeding him jar food...

Let him tell you. The right time isn't based solely on your baby's age. It's based on the following physical and developmental signs of readiness. Discuss with your doctor when your baby is ready. He may be ready to begin solids when he can do all of the following:

Sits with support and has good head control, and
Has doubled birth weight and weighs at least 13 pounds, and
Continues to be hungry after 8 to 10 breast feedings or drinks 32 ounces of formula a day

The best solid food to start you baby on is Rice Cereal,

Now is the perfect time to "experiment" with solid foods. But try rice cereal first (and not in the bottle!). Test his ability to roll the food to the back of his mouth with his tongue. If he is able to do this and swallow he is ready for the 1st stage of solid foods (very finely pureed). If not wait a week and then try again.

Always ask your ped and wait 3 days before you introduce new foods to check for allergies. And don't worry some babies aren't ready for solid food this early, try again once a week. You'll be amazed how fast they catch on. But still feed breastmilk/formula as this is still his source of nourishment.

I wouldnt start before they are 6 months. Starting them on solid foods before then can help your baby develop food allergies, which is not a good thing. I would advise you to first ask your doctor before you feed your baby anything but formula. Its better safe than sorry. Food allergies are a pain in the butt! But when he is ready to eat solidish foods, any type of processed/mashed food is good for them, all in moderation of course. Just make sure its completely crushed, and watch the seeds :)

I started both my boys around 4 months, jar food and baby cereal are good starts.

He should start on rice cereal on a spoon first. Once that is mastered you can begin stage 1 baby food on a spoon. Make sure you still give him his formula or breastmilk.

4 Months for cerals and about 6 months for jar food, but a quick call to your PD can help.

I think you have to start with the baby rice first and then slowly introduce single ingredient fruit and veggie jars.
