Unless the idol indicates to you through any mode of communication, you won't discover whether they are or are not what they were believed to be. The evidence is difficult to gather.

In the same way as living beings are many but the life-energy/ Soul that drives each one of them is unique yet invisible, God also is form of energy invisible to our routine 5 senses. It is proven by Science (means humans) that energy is neither created nor destroyed, it is transformed from one form to another.

Having said that, the idols of God are I believe created by human beings, but the Supreme energy is beyond a single idol, it is beyond our normal vision and can take the form of innumerable idols, each with some purpose. In simple terms, because we are not able to visualise God (try seriously meditating and finding out), we human beings should've created God - some idols as symbolic and some witnessed by the people living on this planet, replicating those great souls who worked miracles and were great educators/ messiah/ saviour of masses.

The idol will therefore be only a representation, it is how you connect your own inner (soul/ God) energy with the Supreme energy and through your own attitude that you would be satisfied or disappointed.

Hope this makes sense to you, given that you are not religious.

Ok little insight for u lot!! God isn't an idol he's real and he does watch over u all! He's answered my prayers on many occasions but he isnt the sort of God tht will give u a Ferrari or £5M wen u prayer for it! He'll give u guidance and he'll steer u in da right direction. And u may want to note that a lot of the people in the middle east worship false idols not the Christian God! 1 of the 10 commandments is "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the LORD your God, am a jealous God punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations, of those who love me and keep my commandments." and any other religion worships a false idol, even Jews who do believe in and worship the same God in theory still deny that Jesus was his Son adn therefore do not worship him correctly.

I think God is an idol for a lot of people religious or otherwise, trouble is those same people blame God when things go wrong in their life, so even God goes out of fashion for some people when he doesn't deliver directly as required.

any one who thinks god is an idol will be disappointed.

idols are by definition a projection of one's own perception of perfection based upon what one believes is imperfect about one's self. thereby making the perfection of the idol unobtainable by one's own barriers of perception. if that perfection is unobtainable due to one's flaws, then one becomes disappointed.

I want to tell you that there is a GOD that controls everything including the god you are talking about. Belief in him and you will be save by acknowledging and confessing you sins through his only son Jesus Christ

I disagree. If the christian God is compassionate and loving and all powerfull, then he is doing a crap job in the middle east right now.

I mean, who would jesus kill?

The other major religion's gods are as useless too. I am very disapointed in them and their followers.
