I think not. I suspect that Snape will prove to be an unknown hero after all, and if I had to guess at one major character's death in Bk. 7, it would be a self-sacrificial death of Snape, which somehow will enable Harry to overcome Voldemort and restore Dumbledore.

Dumbledore and Snape will turn out to represent the two sources of wisdom for Harry, the bright flaming wisdom and the dark, shadowy wisdom (or wiliness, or shrewdness). Harry has to see the value of both. After all, the "savior's" followers have to be wise as serpents as well as harmless as doves.

I don't think he's still alive, but I think he might have crystallised all his knowledge for Harry to use in the last war against Voldemort.

The fact that he doesn't care as much about equiping Harry with the necessary magical training to destroy the horcrux/kill voldemort ( Remember he almost died, and lost the use ofhis hand when destroying one) point that his memories might return to help harry.

That, or his portraits might help him? Dilys, Phineas nigellus have long been dead, but they offer advise and talk thru portraits. Why can't Dumbledore?

I was doubting it as I was reading the book. I was thinking there's no way Dumbledore would have gotten killed off, that he was just faking it until everyone left, but then they did have his funeral and no one seemed to hold out any hope that there was any way he had survived, so I guess he really did die. I kept thinking that they were just trying to fool you-know-who. I am really interested to see in the final book if he comes back somehow.....

I used to think no... but after reading intervies with JK Rowling, I'm starting to think yes. She has said it was necessary for Harry's character development.

Still, there is hope that easily the coolest character in the books is still kicking around somewhere...

Yes, I do think he's dead. If he weren't dead, then Snape would be given that he took the Unbreakable Vow to finish the task if Draco couldn't. Seeing as Snape isn't dead, then Dumbledore has to be. Besides, JK Rowling has said that he is indeed dead.

Yes, I am so sorry...he most certainly did...the way his death is described if he comes back that would kind of mess the series up even if we are delighted to get him back...
