Betamethasone dipropionate ointment is used to treat itching and inflammation for a number of skin disorders - basically rashes and irritations.

A boil, or skin abscess, is a collection of pus that forms inside the body. The primary treatments for boils include hot packs and draining ("lancing") the abscess, but only when it is soft and ready to drain. If you have a fever or long-term illness, such as cancer or diabetes, or are taking medications that suppress the immune system, you should contact your healthcare practitioner if you develop a boil (abscess).

If this ointment was not prescribed for the boil, I would not use it for that purpose! It is impossible to diagnose what treatment is needed without knowing your health history or seeing the boil. You should call your doctor or nurse practitioner before using this cream on any area for which it was not prescribed.

Betamethasone Dipropionate is a corticosteroid used to reduce itching, redness, and swelling associated with many skin conditions. It is also only available with prescription, so you should ask your doctor about it and what you should use. There are things over the counter you can use those, so ask your pharmacist.
