In that film "War of the Worlds"...the one with Tom Cruise...the latest one...did anyone notice how when they had that car they were escaping in, roads just seemed to mysteriously open up for them as they were driving at breakneck speed? Also, where did all those bodies come that the little girl saw floating down the river? Those tripod things usually either zapped people to a puff of smoke, or grabbed them and pulled them up to those cages. I loved the movie...watch it alot, I loved the book, too. Any comments? Am I nitpicking?

You are not nitpicking. You are right about the roads opening up. That part was not believable. There should have been other people around stranded on the roads. I also thought it was odd that just his van and the military vehicles were working.

And yeah, where did all those bodies in the river come from? One guy had a bath robe on what is up with that?

I could not stand his kids in the movie, way too much back talk and his daughter's screaming and sarcasm got on my nerves. Overall, the movie was okay. I had never seen the original or I am sad to say, read the book. Sadly if and when I do read the book, all of the images in my head will be of Tom Cruise. Yikes!

When they first took off in the car his son asked him why they were on the back roads and not on the freeway, and he said he was trying to hide the fact that they had a working car. As for the bodies floating by: Yes, the tripod thingeys did blast people into a puff of smoke, when they blasted them individually. There was total chaos at that time......maybe a building fell on a bus or something.

Nitpicking? Not really, those are all good points. Watch it a few more times and I'll be you have more questions.

Yes, your nitpicking ..... First of all, you can't have the main actor get into a car crash so he moved around the other cars that died. Once he got into the country there were no other cars around. As for the bodies, since the tripods were killing or capturing people, those that survived tried to cross the river but they got caught in the current and drowned. That is why there so many people floating in the river.

First of all, the road did not mysteriously open up. There was an electro magnetic pulse and most of the cars were out of commision. Cruise changes out an alternator to get his car running.

Second, those people drowned when boats sunk and that is why they are floating down the river.

I like HG Wells too.

Yeah its just a movie with the whole road thing. BUT.... That was a great film sequence! The camera would pan around the car as they were driving and seamlessly blend right into the car all in one scene. You don't see that type of filmography very often. And if you didn't catch it, watch it again.

I didn't think about those things while watching the movie, but now that you brought it up, it's makes me go hmmm. Nah, I don't think you're being nitpicking. There are a lot of inconsistencies in movies though. It was a good movie for being a remake though. Don't see the new Amityville Horror. That was a really bad movie.

I never really thought about the floating bodies thing until i read your question but i dont think your nitpicking. When they were in the car the streets were empty because no one else had a car that worked but the car they had, had been fixed and they stole it.

It's a movie things like that happen all the time. I loved the book but hated the movie. It kinda ended like the directer said "Oh crap we have 15mins left, let's wrap this up!" At least it seemed that way to me.
