could be many things
do you have you latest video drivers?
what spec machine do you have can it handle it?
have you checked for updates for the game they may have a patch for it if people were having probs with certain types of graphics cards.

Sounds like your Video Card (if one is installed in your PC)is not capable of handling the game. You may need to get a better card (look at the "Required" harware list on the game's box) or you may simply just need to update your DirectX Version (DirectX handles all the 3D and fancy graphics on your operating system) You can check which version of DirectX you have by doing the following: Click on the Start menu and open the RUN Command. In the "Open" field, type dxdiag , This will open a window called "Direct X Diagnostic Tools" Click on the 1st tab on top that reads "System".....On the bottom choice, the one that reads "DirextX Version"... make sure you have version 9...if you have a lower or older version, then do a google search for Direct X version 9 and install it on your PC.... If this works, then you saved $$ from getting a new Graphics Card. :) :) Good Luck!

Sometimes its because you dont have enough RAM (Virtual Memory) and it makes your computer freeze. So when you play Rise and Fall make sure everything else is closed
Also read the system requirements make sure have enough ram to support it

Serious virus everytime the game is downloaded or opened, it has happened to me b4. Go to a PC shop and buy a good anti-virus cd. that should help.

It sounds like you have insufficient RAM for the game. I have had that happen with large programs, and had to increase memory.
