we have a hornet nest about 6 feet off the ground swarming with hornets, and something tore into it, and completely shredded it, and apparently ate the larvae things out of it, and they were nowhere to be seen- the hornets are still there- any ideas??

You didn't say where you live. Lots of animals will eat wasp/hornet larva- skunks, raccoons, bears, etc.

I'm thinking it was probably a raccoon ,just last night we had one torn up in a pine tree about 6 ft. off the ground. nest is in shreds on the ground,but hornets are still there and are very mad.they let me know I wasn't wanted.

Possibly a bear. If you can, wait til dark and build a fire under that makes smoke.
