I've been in some sort of school band for 10 years. You have to try the instruments to see how they sound. It has to have a good tone, timbre, etc. One trombone in one brand could sound completely different from the same brand of trombone. The differentiation gets more detectable with woodwind instruments. By the way, don't order one. Go to a music store to buy one. My middle school director ordered a trumpet & it took her 5 hours to arrange the valves in the right holes for it to play correctly. You never know what condition it'll be in when it arrives! Good luck! And enjoy it!
