Sure, it is stereotyping but this world does that you know. I was once told that I don't like black people anymore because I went back home and didn't want to do the same things I did when I was younger. Honestly, I am black and I love my people, but ask me if I would prefer to run out of gas in a white neighborhood or a black one and I will tell you all day the white one. I don't like being around us at a club cause we fight other blacks cause they accidentally step on our feet. Additionally, when we fight we usually get our boys to come help fight (which is a punk move to me), and if we win it is worse than us losing because whoever lost will likely try to come back with a gun. Also, is your household rented or owned? Blacks normally rent. Does your car have rims or is the car worth more than the tires and sound system? Again, blacks will spend as much or more on that crap than the car is worth. Are you on welfare but have the newest Jordans? That's us again. If you were from a place that was predominately black you would know what that meant. And I don't think it is a bad thing. It is more likely for blacks to go to prison than college.
I don't mind "acting white." I might actually invest in something that appreciates not depreciates, likely to own a computer, likely not to waste money on rims and shoes, likely not to fight, likely to go to college, likely to be a progressive person. I didn't say all blacks are bad and all whites are good, but we generally have our prorities and values totally screwed up and they normally have theirs in the right order. I once was in a wedding with this little girl. She was around 6 or 7 and you couldn't understand anything she said. She was rude and didn't listen to people but when the music started playing everyone surrounded her and watched her dance and laughed and everything like she was finding the cure for cancer. I doubt her parents spent much time trying to teach her anything other than how to dance and be cool. Oh well, be offended if you want, but I feel we need to work harder at changing all of these things.

Acting white, using big words, having an open mind, being successful in anything other then sports or music, listening to anything other the hip hop, pulling your pants up. Speaking proper English. If your black this is what acting white is commonly portrayed as. It is stupid but this is what people mean.. I personally feel that your race is not the color of your skin but the content of your character. You can e a black white guy. If you Hang out in yuppy places and smoke malboro instead of newport and speak with that base in your voice as far as im concern your a white person. For what ever reason you dont fit the description of what a black person is. It should not upset you your a unique race i like to call wiggers. Nothing wrong with that and as a matter of fact you will get further in life because of it.

I'm not quite sure what acting white means. I have heard many white people not use proper english. I disagree though that there is no such thing as acting black. I hear young boys all the time at malls, saying "Yo Brotha", and calling white people walking by Honkies.

well not really, if you think there is no such thing as acting black or white you need to get a serious reality check. It's a fact of life, I can talk on the phone to a random stranger and tell if they're black or white! Black people and white people have a different way of communicating and a totally different attitude, it's not racist, it's just the way it is!

Actually, when you quote, unquote "act black" it doesn't mean your a thug. It's mostly how you sound when you talk not exactly the way you talk. Some white ppl act very nerdish. What I mean by that is they use the word 'like' whenever they describe something. But just bcuz ppl say that don't mean that their sayin it to be mean. Cuz regardless of skin color we act the way we act. And I have plenty of white friends. Some ppl gonna alwayz take it the wrong way. Just let it go. Cuz everyone has something to say about another race. It's life. Live it.
Oh and I happen to love rap, r&b, rock, country. Everything. Does that mean I'm acting white? Don't think so.

As I was growing up especially when I entered the military I used to hear the phrase "Wigger"...apparently is was the term associated with a white person acting black...just as I know that the term Uncle Tom was given to blacks who..."acted white"...God forbid they got an education and spoke proper English....it's sad that they are stereotypical...but...unfortunately its a syndrome that has been around since the dawn of time and is seemingly only getting worse rather than getting better.

you are so right. there is no such thing as acting white. just because you don't talk slang or don't have an accent does not make you white.People think that using proper english or liking the finer things in life make you someone other than your own race. You are who you are and if you speak proper english that's because you are educated and were not around a lot of people who spoke slang. i did not grow up around the barrio so i have not been exposed to a lot of things other hispanics who did have. that does not make me white

A person talks like they do from the environment they were raised in or the education they received. You can be any race and talk a certain way. Acting has nothing to do with this.
Family has a lot to do with the way one talks too. A family member can talk a certain way, but the child from that family can be the most perfect speaker ever heard all because of education. It all comes down to speak well, speak clear and you will go far.
Red, black, white or stripes, race has nothing to do with how a person speaks.

People say "acting white" because many people have this warped view of race. They see white people as articulate and educated and black people as ignorant. Society has bought into this nonsense, so when I'm at work I have to "act white" but when I leave work and head to the southside of town to my "hood" I act black. I won't lie and say that my language and presentation don't change according to my environment and my audience but it has nothing to do with me acting like a certain race. I am black and proud and smart and articulate. A person can be all of those things. I just wish that more people would accept that.

I know exactly what you mean. They call me that too becuase I'm smart and get good grades. I hang out with the "thugs" but the other kids still call me white and I don't get it. I have friends of all types or race and color. My mom had the same problem but she didn't care and now she runs her own business so I guess it all evens out. My dad on the other hand was supposedly a "thug" but now he just retired from the army. I doubt you wanted to hear my whole life story but that is just a little background. You should ignore them and tell them when you are running your own business they will wish they had treated you better. Keep it up and don't change. You will be greatful later on in life.
