"Cricket" was originally designed and marketed towards to people living in URBAN areas of the nation. Basically it was the means for this telecommunication company to make a profit from specific clientele - those individuals not wanting their phonecalls to be traced and or monitored by certain law enforcement agencies and the likes.
That would be the "politically correct" way to say it. The other way to explain it would be that "Cricket" is looking to make money off drug dealers and the likes. They saw the profits that the apparel companies were making and they decided to seize the opportunity too.
They have since shifted their focus to that of a normal cellular carriers.
Their plans in some cases are better than those of the major mobile carriers. The one plan they offer is actually pretty good -
$45 per month for unlimited local calling, unlimited long distance, unlimited text and picture messaging. That is a really good deal considering but only if you plan on never leaving your calling area or going to other states.

Depends on how much you talk. I have Cricket and don't make more than maybe 2 calls a day, I am getting rid of it for a prepaid. But if you are currently spending more than 50 bucks a month then it is worth it because you can get unlimited calls, long distance, and text for like 49.99.

Cricket is a damn good mobile phone deal to keep up with..Your bill is never extremely high and you can talk all you want too...My cousin live in NY and she talk all she want with free long distance, unlimited text and three way calling and all...the only thing is its not a good phone to travel state to state with, cause it only works in your area....I live in the ATL and we call cricket 'Metro' and i have one and its the same great plans.... Go for it!!

Well...I will say this...I work at Radioshack and I also sell cellphones..With Sprint and Cingular....I get alot of customer's that come in naggin' about how bad cricket is...Yeah it's a good deal..But there's always a catch to something like that...I've had Cricket twice and I will never go back to them...I always had dropped calls,or no signal at all...Plus....If you wanna leave the state.....Or the city...You won't beable to use Cricket...

I had it for my daughter for awhile when she was younger because it was unlimited local minutes anytime for a flat rate. It saved me a fortune over a regular plan.
