Mass hysteria --- like the Edna phenomena . . .and envy, drive the vehicle of negative energy, directed at successful folks.
Many may dislike Britney Spears (or the way she does things), but then again - many feel that she is needlessly maligned, and come to her defense, LOUDLY and strongly (news reports).
Celebrities are just 'that' - targets - with an 'open for your opinion' sign, hanging on the front door of their lives (paparazzi input). The more mature ones never read or listen to the critics.

I don't hate her. But first of all, the girl is tone deaf and has a studio produced voice. She lip syncs and has yet to display any amount of intelligence (did anyone SEE her interview with Matt Lauer?)
Britney has also repeatedly snubbed her fans by refusing to sign autographs or take a few minutes to stand in their presence. People walked out during the premier of her movie in London, because she walked straight inside, didn't even LOOK at the fans that were there.
She's just phony, says one thing and does another. She's not very talented or intelligent and I think a lot of people are just sick of seeing people like her all over the place.

I don't hate Britney! I thought she was a cute girl when she first came out. However, she has become very trashy. She is supposed to be a role model for young girls. She has done some pretty dumb things as well, and needs to use common sense, she is bringing it all upon herself, and is now a joke to most people. Getting married in Las Vegas, marrying Kevin, driving around without her child in a car seat just dumb. It's a shame really, she probably had a bright future.

Because she is not an ideal example of what an American woman should strive to be. She doesn't take marriage seriously because her first marriage lasted just over 2 days and then married a deadbeat who sponges off her and walked out on his girlfriend and child. She smokes and drinks and parties too much, even though she has a child(ren). She has been in trouble with CPS many times for her lack of parental ability. She made most of her money acting sleezy and singing (lip-syncing) about promiscuity, even though she is well-aware that young girls look up to her.

It's not that they hate her, they just hate what she become because at the begining they actually liked her, which means that it has something to do with the present.
For all y'all people who thinks that others are jalous of Britney get a clue because there are a lot of other celebs who are way wealthy than Britney that people actually love.
And yes, she can't sing. anyone who thinks she can sing is as tone deaf as she is

It's easy to dislike Britney Spears because she consistently fails to exhibit good taste. However, there are two much more important reasons why most people do not like her.
The most important reason why people dislike her is because her music and her videos demonstrate that she is a woman comfortable with her sexuality and this is something that threatens most Americans.
The other reason why people dislike her is because she is quite wealthy and most people are envious of her lifestyle.

Because her life is an absolute train wreck. She had an incredible career, tons of money and fame, just to throw it away for some dirtball that has impregnated half the world. She never complained when the press made her famous, now that they are catching her drop her children, she is all mad. Yet she talks publicly with the press(Matt Lauer) about her life. You reap what you sow.

I don't hate her. Actually, after watching her interview with Matt Lauer, I kinda feel sorry for her. She's obviously just a country bumpkin who doesn't know better. She seems to be to be naive. I mean, didn't she have a public relations person telling her not to snap her gum and wear a low cut shirt with a trashy denim skirt on primetime TV? I think everyone should just leave her alone.

She is a very poor role model
