You may have a sensitivity to the metal in the posts. Try either gold or the sensitive ear (I think they're nylon) posts (or 18 ga titanium or niobium body jewelry - 18 ga is the size of most of the studs used in piercing guns, which are icky - and another story completely).
Also, while the disinfectant from Claire's/Piercing Pagoda/whathaveyou does work to a certain extent, just using soap and water will take care of the cleaning - if the irritation gets really bad, warm salt water will also help. Make sure to clean them at least once every day and keep your hands off them.
Good luck!

I was in a similar situation, and this is what I did:
Wear gold earrings, since they are lessl likely to irritate ears than other metals. Keep them in continuously, so your ears get used to wearing earrings again. Clean them everyday w/ pierciing antiseptic, which you can buy whereever you get your ears pierced (Piercing Pagoda stores, tattoo/piercing parlors, etc.) Turn the earrings, just like you do w/ new piercings.
Basically, treat your old holes as if they're newly pierced, you know, like keeipng the earrings in for several weeks.

You might have sensitive ears and need to wear hypo-allergenic posts.
If they hurt, try some rubbing alcohol on them...it might sting, but it seems to help!
I have found that if I don't wear earrings for a while, and then try to, they get irritated. If you really want to wear them, ease back into it. Only wear the earrings for a short period of time for a while, take them out, and make sure to clean the earrings. Then graduate to wearing them longer until it becomes comfortable again. Also, if you go this route--don't wear the heavy ones, or super dangly ones until your ears become readjusted to it.
Whatever you do, clean your earrings before you wear them. They attract ear gunk & other stuff that your ears will not like!!!
Good luck!!!

clean your earrings and ears with a ear care solution found where you get your ears peirced at...you can also thread a needle and run it thru the solution and thru the ears backwards, kinda like dental floss but for your ears,,,and wear either gold or silver you may have an allergy to one so wear one for a few days and see then switch out

my daughter was allergic to metal...so real gold post might be your only answer, cuz even the hypoallergenic metal was bad for her, she did eventually grow out of it but some earrings still irritate her ears
