Draft a RB in the first round - you might be tempted to take Manning, but resist the urge.

Try to grab another RB in round 2. RB is easily your most important position due to a scarcity of quality backs and the fact that you need to start 2 every week.

It's ok to take a top flite WR (Owens, Chad, Holt, Harrison, Smith) in round 2 - but then make damn sure you get a RB in round 3.

Important numbers:

By round 3 you should have 2 RB and 1 WR
By round 5 you must have at least 2 RB and 2 WR - it's ok if you still don't have a QB - plenty of solid starters will be available in rounds 6-8 - don't panic. (I like to have 3 RB and 2 WR after 5 rounds)

DO NOT TAKE A TE in the first 5 rounds - I don't care if Gates is still out there; let someone else have him. Take a shot at one of the rookie TE's in round 9-12 or so (Vernon Davis, Marcedes Lewis, Joe Klopfenstein)

DO NOT DO ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:

-draft more than 2 QB's
-draft more than 1 PK
-draft more than 1 Defense

They will only take up valuable roster space where you could be stockpiling WR's and reserve RB's.

If you have a stud RB - draft his backup. When you do this is relative to how good he is and how injury prone he is and whether or not there's a chance he could lose his job. (If you draft LJ, get Michael Bennett by round 9 or someone else will steal him - Same for Deshaun Foster/Deangelo Williams, etc.)

Follow these simple rules, and you will be better than at least half the teams in your league.

Kerry Collins doesn't have a job and Chambers will be gone by the 4th round - be careful who you listen to and don't believe everything you read (see below)

I agree with what many of these people have said... but one word of warning...

before you draft a running back first... you should make sure that your league is set up to favor rbs... look at how the stats will be calculated... if it's the default, rbs are usually a good pick, but I'm still not huge on taking rbs at the end of the first round, since most of the good ones are gone and the top players at other positions are still available, like peyton manning...

and one other thing... I like guys that have a lot of experience... and I don't like guys on new teams.... Larry Johnson only played about 6 games last year, that doesn't make me super excited about using an high top pick on him... and terrell owens is on a new team... I like a guy in a familiar situation for more than a year... personally

Get good running backs early. There will be QBs available later in the draft, like 3rd or 4th rd. Look for Jake Delhomme in the later rounds too, he might be a sleeper pick.

you should be looking to pick up you running backs first. if you have the first, second or third pick go for Larrry Johnson from Kansas City, LaDainian Tomlinson from San Diego and then Shaun Alexander from Seattle respectively. if you come later in the draft look for Edge, LaMont Jordan, Tiki Barber or Stephen Jackson dont get caught up in the Reggie Bush hype just yet.

second round go for a good wide reciever. if these guys are still available grab them. Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, Chad Johnson, Steve Smith, Larry Fitzgerald.

third round is time to get your second running back. look for those same guys mentioned above

fourth round should be time for a good QB. most likely payton manning is already gone, but the nfl is full of fantasy QB's, look at Kerry Collins. didnt help the raiders win any games but he put up the 8th best points for QB's. in the third round look to pick up Hassleback, Roethlisberger, Brunell, Brady, Vick, Palmer.

defense, jacksonville, pittsburgh, chicago ,atl, new england

now a good kicker they help alot. look for neil rackers, vinateri, vanderjagt.

now fill out the rest of your recieving, chris chambers, jerry porter, houshmenzadah randel el, ward, boldin.
