One explanation I read is that female breasts serve as a mimic for the buttocks.

Here's how the reasoning goes. Most primates mate with the male behind the female. The male's view of the female right before and during sex is of her buttocks and vagina, so that is sort of "programmed" into primates (including humans) as a stimulating view.

For a number of reasons, humans tend to mate with the man on top of the woman. It's believed that this leads to greater tactile sensation for both partners (being mostly hairless, we are more sensitive than other primates). This position is also more accommodating to human anatomy which differs from other primates, and it helps to promote a relationship bond when the man and woman can look into each others eyes during sex.

The problem for our ancient ancestors was that the front of the woman didn't look like what they were supposed to see during sex. Over time, women's breasts became a kind of substitute. The two round protuberances on her chest resembled the two round protuberances on her backside. Thus, they became a sexual stimulant to human males, much like the buttocks is for other primates (and remains so for humans, too).

This theory also explains why lips are seen as attractive, and why they are often brightly colored. They are believed to be a mimic for the vagina.

Most of us are taught to be.

Some of the African tribes and South American Indian tribes walk around topless all the time. Obviously, boobs aren't an obsession with them.

Coming from and evolutionary stand point, breasts happened to be a sign of fertility, the same as large hips(the curves) so guy's are programed to look for them. Gals on the other hand want the attention we shower on the breast so in order to be accepted they put a great deal of emphasis on them as will.

Men are genetically programed to look for curves. We want women who are curvy- curved legs, curved boobs.

Proof? Runway models like Kate Moss wear clothes that are designed by gay men- and if you notice they have little if any curves, almost like a guy,,,,see the connection?

for some reason unknown to me, it is socially acceptable for a man to go "topless" but not for women. and since women have their tops covered, it is only human instinct to enjoy what they cannot have.
