Ok, I have a baby girl (3 yrs) and she has many times by "error" placed gum on clothes, bed, and even sof........ok I found out on my own that if you warm your iron for a couple minutes ....just to let it be warm ....then you can take the iron and pass it VERY FAST on the gum and quickly remove the melted gum with a wet cloth......trust me you will get that gum off the sofa.......OFCOURSE you cna only do this if the sofa is not a plastic material .......tell me how it goes....laters

I've tried the ice thing. Doesn't work great, but if you really can get the gum to freeze good and hard, then use a dull knife to scrape it off.
I've heard about the peanut butter for hair, but I think if you put it on a sofa, now you've got a worse problem than just having gum on it. Now you've got a peanut butter stain, too. :-)

It depends on the type of gum.

First, try ice. Cooling it will make it solid and easy to remove. Do not attempt to put the sofa inside the fridge.

Last option is kerosine or paint thinner. Any gum wil loosen up its grab on fabric if kerosine is applied. I used kerosine to remove gum from my dog's hair.

Get some dry ice, use gloves and put the dry ice on the gum, it will freeze solid, become very brittle and you can chip it away, will not harm the fabric like chemicals will.

Be-leave it or not we use to use ice that may work or at the store there's this stuff called goo-gone and that works the best. After having 3 kid's 2-4-6 you learn. lol

Ice will work, but you could also try baby oil. It works better than ice.
Baby oil is also good for getting gum out of hair.
