I have a white metal stove hood ventilator in good condition. I have changed to a black/stainless stove and would like my stove hood to match. Must I use special paint for this application? I do not want to remove it to paint.

I removed mine, cleaned it really well with a degreaser, took out the vent panels, taped off their boxes, sanded the suface lightly and used high heat grill paint in matte black. The grill paint is available at the Home Depot. You can also use engine paint which is available at the automotive supply stores. Turned out really well and everyone wants to know where we bought a black vent! Also, I've not had a problem cleaning it or having the paint flake or come off with the heat.

you should take the time to remove it to paint, it's probably easier than taping everything off around it. Yes, you must use a certain type of pain. It needs to be heat tempered paint for metal. Most craft or home depot type places carry it.

use a degreaser to clean very well, let it dry, then use painters tape & brown paper, tape all serfaces around the hood, cover the stove or cook top well, then spray paint the hood.there's really good paint in spray form now, even stainless look .........good luck

are you sure you want to paint it? stove hoods get pretty hot when you cook, and the heat combined with paint might cause fumes or a bad smell. think twice, or go to home depot and ask the paint guy.

You'll need to use a special paint because of the heat. I suggest you talk to someone at your local paint/hardware store or consult the manufacturer of the hood.

Best to replace with matching vent. It will never be right if you try to paint the old vent. OK?
