I'm not so sure that would be true. Sounds like a myth to me. You can always look around on www.beinggirl.com to see if there's an answer there. If not, you can ask as well. I have no clue how much I weighed when I started. Probably more than 100 lbs. The website is pretty cool. It gives you a lot of information & you can even get free samples of pads & tampons. Good luck.

It is not true. I did not reach 100 pounds until I was in college. I started at 10 and weighed less than 80 pounds. Now, that is sharing personal information. ;)
Hormones are the key to when you begin. If you are very unhealthy you could delay your starting or make it irregular. However, that is not as likely as they once thought, without severe malnutrition.
There are also rumors that you start when you mother did. Perhaps. Genetics do play a part.

Its not true .. but this is around when you should start getting it :::
Since you first heard the word "period," you've probably been wondering what it is and when you'd get it. Although most girls get their period between 11-14 years old, you could start your period anywhere from 8-17 years old.
You could narrow that down by taking clues from your body. During puberty, when your body becomes sexually mature, you'll have some of these changes that show your period's on its way. (By the way, these changes may happen in a different order than listed here.)
Developing Breasts. First, you'll get breast "buds". (Your breasts then can take up to 3-4 years to fully develop.) Generally you will get your period 2-3 years after your breasts start developing.
Growing Pubic Hair. Right after your breasts start to form, you'll start developing pubic hair. It will be soft and thin at first, then gradually become coarser. Your period usually arrives around 1-2 years after the hair development.
Discharge. This is the big sign. You'll start to experience vaginal discharge that will be either white or yellowish. If you like, you may want to start using Alldays Pantiliners to protect you underwear. You period should start around 6-12 (but up to 18) months after the start of discharge.
There's one more way to figure out when you'll start menstruating: Ask your mom. You'll probably get your period within a year or so of when she got hers.

First of all, you shouldn't listen to rumors. Second of all, I believe that this particular rumor is false. You usually start your period anywhere between 10 and 16.

Your period starts whenever your body decides when it is ready, no matter how much you weigh.
This is also something you should ask your mother, maybe she knows, ask her when she started her period because usually genetics has something to do with it. Also, ask you doctor, he or she will have a better answer than anyone on here.
Take care, dont stress.... Trust me, you dont want to rush to get your period anyways, its not THAT fun!
Peace and Blessings.

Maybe you could find an adult that you trust to discuss stuff like this with, much more helpful than half truths and rumours. If you feel that you really cant talk to any one then check out www.coolnurse.com which has all sorts of information about becoming a teenager and all the issues related.

No, it has nothing to do with weight (well, not really).
It has to do merely with your body's developmental age. Some women never reach 100 pounds, and yet they still have their periods.

No, your weight is based on genetics, diet and activity level. You won't start your period based on any arbitrary weight. (I was probably about 85 pounds when mine started and took almost another two years to hit 100 pounds.)
