I so believe that the elderly should recieve medicare... but I also believe in socialized medicine and think our country should do away with our health insurance system as we know it and have our goverment employee hospitals, like the VA and have a portion of our paychecks through a tax pay for it- that way everyone recieves the same benefit and my extra tax dollars do not get spent on someone on welfare who runs to the ER for strep throat instead of going to the regular doctor. Saves everyone money !!!!

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. But, I am a conservative, and I can firmly state that we're NOT against helping the elderly get breaks for medical expenses. What we're against are liberal "give-away" programs that use our taxes to fund medical programs for illegals and "professional welfare recipients"---which is a TOTALLY different concept.

Medical costs have gone out of sight over the last 2 decades and in this glorious age of managed health care (I'm being sarcastic here) even medical insurance through one's place of employment can't keep up with the annual increases...even for full-time workers. So, imagine how rough it is for those (who payed into Social Security, etc) on fixed incomes! No, we need to help out, and we need to get the health cost not only "under control" but WAY, WAY down. The last thing we need is that lunatic John Kerry trying (again) to promote "universal health care"...he seems to hope we'll all forget that it HAS to be PAID FOR.

Yes. If the government wasn't there to nanny us through life, we would do a better job of it ourselves. People used to belong to fraternal organizations and churches that helped people out. These were neighbors and friends involved in community outreach. They used to take care of Mom and Dad when they got old, now it is easier to just send them off to a subsidized home with subsidized medicine. When people depend on each other, they grow closer, now life is very impersonal and society has suffered because of this detachment. That is why these so called compassionate programs are so bad, they help to ruin the bonds that hold us together by providing incentives to be self-centered.

Thats a tough one, not really, we should all plan for retirement and insurance. I have to because there wont be programs like that when i get older. On the other hand i see that the elderly do need help, but dang it why couldnt they have saved when they were younger?

No. I am against giving away dollars to help people sit around and do nothing. I am against spending tons of money on programs that continue to make people reliant on the government. We are giving hand outs, not helping anyone move ahead. And while we are at it, I am against spending billions of dollars on other countries, from funding a war to liberate people that hate us, to sending food, medical supplies, etc. to people who hate us. We have sick and starving people in this country and if we are going to waste the time and money, we ought to at least be doing it to help Americans.

i think you are confusing medicaid with medicare. the elderly receive medicare. anyone can receive medicaid, but they have to meet certain poverty criteria. also i have no idea what question you're actually asking!

while the conservatives spurt ridiculous crap about how the poor want to squelch it all from them, the poorest people in america are still children and the elderly whom we both owe better.
