As part of my house-sitting stint, I'm in charge of some hissing cockroaches. Every two-three days, I'm supposed to go out, give them some water and some lettuce.

Today I went out to find one in decomp in the water bowl. Uh oh. I threw him away and cleaned the bowl.

What could have killed him? How mad do you think the owner will be (if you've read one of my other posts, I also owe him a king sized sheet because the bird...ate it.) and are these things easy to replace? I've never exactly gone cockroach buying.

I just hope no other animal dies. I can't imagine killing the tarantula or piranhas.

Sometimes animals just die. As long as you didn't do anything to cause its demise, he can't hold you responsible for its death. If you did exactly as you were told and it still died, it probably would have died anyways. You are not responsible for it and you don't need to replace it if it's not your fault. You probably should have kept it though, just to prove you didn't steal or lose it.
