i had braces. there's practically no pain when they put them on. but be prepared for lots of pain about and hour after they go on. the pain will last for about 4-5 days. right after you walk out of the office i'd pop 2 advils as a pre-eptive strike. and make sure they give you wax when you leave. since the brackets will rub on the inside of your mouth and give you sores.

hope that helps!

Braces will feel a bit uncomfortable for the first 2-3 days. Eat foods that are soft and don't need to be really chewed on. Alot of liquids are good, too. Take an aspirin or Tylenol to relieve some pain if its unbearable. Don't worry..everyone takes this differently and you'll be fine. Good Luck!

Some of these people don't know what they are talking about, honey! I'm 25 and my family couldn't afford to get me braces when I was a teen, so I saved up and got them for myself! I finally have my braces and they are coming off in two months. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself and my boyfriend LOVES them. When we first met and he realized I had braces, I became so shy about it, but he said "That is so f***ing adorable!" If anyone gives you trouble about it, forget them, keep smiling because one day your smile will be perfect and their's will still look like Austin Powers. <3 Good luck!

I got my braces off April 11th. The only time they hurt is when either: your lip gets caught on one of the bracets or when they tighten them. I suggest that you buy some pudding, soup, and noodles. When they tighten your braces up, it is easier to eat these things. Don't get freaked out about braces. My life was actually better with braces. But some rude and stupid boys might call you "Brace face" but ignore them. Just say so what if I got braces. I love them!

make sure your house has lots of soft foods - like jello, soups, ask your mom to make mashed potatos, rice, bananas, pudding, drinks....because your teeth are going to hurt so you wont be able to eat hard foods. Your teeth will hurt for like a week, but then you get used to the weird feeling of having braces.
Choose nice colors - dont choose a lot of light colors because sometimes they can get discolored because of all the food and drinks you eat and then it will just look funky and gross.
make sure you have some pain relivers around in case you cant handle the pain (i never used any tho so i guess it depends on the person) make sure you get that wax that you can stick in your mouth from the orthodontist in case you get some uncomfortable pokey metal sticking out or something, make sure to brush your teeth well, i know the first week will be hard because your teeth will kill, but do your best, maybe try some mouth wash after too.
so basically, for the first week or so make sure you eat soft foods and have some advil handey....
good luck!!! youll be fine.
theyll be off in no time and youll have gorgeous straight teeth!

i had braces and got them off a few monthes ago... they will hurt for a while but not for very long. like for a day or two. i know it'll hurt the first thing you'll get them on.. also it is harder to eat too because you aren't use to the braces but it'll get better. you'll might loose some weight in the first few monthes to a year. i did. because i had this retainer thing attactched to the roof of my mouth to spread my teeth and that made it harder for me too eat because the food would get stuck... i have gained some weight since i got mine off. also start with soft foods so it can be easier for you to eat

hey! ya I have braces. It's not as bad as you think. The 1st day they won't even bother you...it'll just feel weird. But it doesn't matter, take tylenol b/c on the 2nd day they will hurt. Just don't try to eat any hotdogs and ect. just have mashed potatos, soup, ice cream. u know that kinda stuff. O and don't 4get to get wax...that's a lifesaver if your lips rub on you braces. But you'll get used to them. Good luck

braces aren't all that bad, they're as bad as you make them. depending on the severity of your teeth (how bad you need them) the pain varies. my teeth were pretty bad before i got my braces. it's painful usually after they tighten your braces. tylenol helps with the pain, and brush your teeth well because after they take your braces off, you could get little yellow patches on your teeth that won't go away.
