When I went to the doctor he gave me a bunch free samples. Now I went to get a my prescription filled today it was $60 with my insurance. Is there any difference in the ones prescribed by the doctor and the over the counter ones? Is anyone else paying that much? I only paid 20 a month last time I was pregnant.

I have had 3 children, pregnant with # 4 and used over the counter prenatal vitamins with all of them as I started to take them as soon as we decided to start trying for a baby. I pay roughly $8 a bottle at CVS or Target and they are exactly like the ones that are prescribed. I am a military spouse and can get my prescriptions for free but the vitamins they prescribe have too much vitamin B complex and they make me loopy!

By the way, all 3 of my children (and hopefully #4, too) were born completely healthy. I had no complications during my pregnancies and no problems with the vitamins. Best is to ask your doctor to recommend an over the counter. They should understand completely you wanting to save money.

Best of luck!

Each brand cost different even though I do not have to pay...I am military so I get FREE prescriptions. I never took over the counter prenatal vitamins...I just take Flintstones Children's because the regular prenatal vitamins make me sick.

I use an over the counter prenatal vitamin and I didn't have any problems. As long as is has enough of the vitamins you need in it, you don't need a prescribed one.

This article will help you make sure the over the counter version has enough of the right stuff in it.

Yikes! I used Stuart Prenatal. I read about this test called the dissolve test. You drop a vitamen in vinegar and if it dissolves within a certain amount of time, then it woll dissolve in time for your bosy to get the nutrients. My husband and I did dissolve tests on quite a few prenatal pills and Stuarts passed with flying colors. They are much much cheaper than your scrip. I always had to take them with food. Good luck!

i have always used over the counter ones, for thats what my doc recommended! i have used the CVS brand. Often they are buy one get one free and are like 10 dollars. They have the same ingrediants and in the same amounts to the stuart pre-natal. My baby is as healthy as i gets and always has been! (hes now almost one!)
