Did that get your attention? Why is Stem Cell Reasurch such a hot topic. The numbeDid that r of people it can benifit is huge. The benifits outweigh the negitaves. I mean the embreos are only getting thrown away why not recycle. People eat eggs and are pretty unremorceful about that. Your killing all these little chicks just so you can eat breakfast. A life is still a life. So what do you think?

I believe that people should have the right to donate the left over embryos to federally funded science.

To nicolasraage, if a murderer cut off my head, my family has the legal and moral right to donate my body to federally funded research so long as I have not left legal objections to this. It is done all of the time in fact. Why would embryos be any different?

From my point of view, donating embryos that are going to be distroyed is exactly like donating a body of someone to research. It is legal and moral. I would never want the body of a loved one thrown into the trash like anti-abortion advocates are advocating.

First of all, we're not animals, human life as a different value than an animals life, no matter how much of a hippy fairy land vistor you are. You cant change the fact that a human life is worth more than that of an animals.

Second, there is no research to suggest that embryo stem cells provide more genetic information, or better chance of sucess. In fact, it has so little promise of providing anyone with health benefits that these companies private investors want nothing to do with it. That should tell you a lot, these people make their money from investing it in medical research. Even they realize that its not worth anything, and they have little chance of making any money.

Bone marrow, cord blood, and adult stem cells have already provided huge advancments in the medical field. People who couldnt walk before are now able to walk with crutches. They have been able to reach new levels in reserch and development with these adult stem cells, and their abilities are barely even tapped.

Embryo stem cell research hasnt even been able to fix paralized rats, let alone people.

Embryo research shouldnt be funded with my tax dollars, if for no other reason then the simple fact that the government hasnt even been able to use my tax monies to provide me or my children with comprehensive health care, and i dont want it wasted on some medical advancement that has absolutely no promise.

Do more research, and listen less to your friends. All the information is out there, you just have to look for it.

Asking for non-religious thoughts about stem cell research is like asking for non-Seattle-Seahawk-fan opinions of the Super Bowl. What's the point? It's nearly impossible to divest the stem cell issue from religion, for it is from religions that most people derive much of their beliefs about the value of human life (the chicken-egg argument is not really relevant to this debate, sorry. Besides, the eggs in grocery stores generally are unfertilized, while the embryos that would be used for stem cell research are, obviously, fertilized.)

But for argument's sake, let's try a non-religious take on the value of human life. While stem cell research could yield amazing medical discoveries and treatments & the embryos were being discarded anyway, what would the value of the full-grown person be had that embryo been taken to full term and born? Would that person possibly be the next Hippocrates, the next Ibn Sina, the next Alexander Fleming, the next one to make a huge medical discovery or treatment that saves millions? There's no way to know.

I'm very torn by the stem cell issue (my belief that human life is valuable ends up defending both sides of this argument.) But I think it is naive to completely dismiss one side or the other of this debate by simply considering the messengers of the opposing arguments closed-minded zealots.

I'm thinking you don't know the facts. If you did, you would know that we already have a funded program with NON embryonic stem cells which are available all day long from Adult stem cells, and from the umbilical cord of fully developed babies. They can do research with Embryonic if they want. We(the people) just won't pay for it. Further more there has been no evidence brought forward by any group to suggest that they would gain any additional information using the Embryonic VS the NON Embryonic stem cells.

Hope this helps clear this up in your mind.

In my honest opinion, the only people who should be able to vote on whether or not a possible cure should be allowed or not are those who would be directly affected by it. It's easy for politicians and other people in their good health to vote against a possible cure which could help millions of people worldwide because of their "moral" beliefs.

The benefits of stem cell research could be great for those suffering from neurological spinal cord injuries and disorders. I, for one, suffered a spinal cord injury which ended my military career several years ago. I believe that only myself and others who have suffered and would benefit from this research should be allowed to vote as to whether or not it should be "morally" accepted.

If stem cell research proves effective, then I should be the one to make the choice as to whether or not I want to have the process done. If God has a problem with that, let him take that up with me personally when I die.

EMBRYONIC stem cell research is the hot topic, which is being pushed by "FOR PROFIT" organizations. I say go right ahead, so long as you are willing to pay for it by PRIVATE FUNDING, but don't reach your hand in my pocket for my tax dollars to support it. President G.W. Bush reached his hand way across the aisle already when he authorized federal tax money to fund research on 22 lines of embyonic stem cells, money that is still available. The "For Profit" organizations aren't satisfied, They want a blank check and no restrictions on how they spend the money.

LOL ....ok wait a minute...
Eggs in the stores ARE NOT FERTILE they are just
'un-sperm-asized' eggs!
Chickens lay eggs all the time every day and if there is NO rooster around then there is NO CHICKS...
GOOD LORD !
JUST like when your EGGS inside your body are let go in your period, then you are not loosing a baby just EMPTY eggs.

Stem Cell research IS a GREAT thing and does need funding just like cancer research does. AND just like all other health researches they will find a way to get funding, telethons, and charity drives...IF the religious people do not want to help then so be it, BUT do not let them get help from the benefits when they find the cure!

Well, I'm for it.

All that other stuff doesn't matter (bone marrow research, cord blood, etc.). We are still dumping lots unused embryos every day, and they might actually give us a cure for all sorts of muscular diseases and disorders. It needs to be funded. George Bush is a moron for not seeing it as nothing other than something going against his party's morals.

there has not been anything proven to show that the research is benificial, it is just "possibley" benificial.

Anyone who thinks abortion is murder, can not accept the use of stem cells, from abortions. That is like saying, well, if your going to chop off someone's head, I should be allowed to use it for research.

Stem cells taken in non abortion ways, I find acceptable to use for research.

Furthermore, Research is allowed, there is just not gov't funding for it. There are plenty of drug companies who can fund it for themselves, and profit from any findings.
