I would like to believe that my son is mine, but I have never been able to find peace since we used protection and the date was a little suspect. He doesn't look much like me, but he's 3 so how much can you really rely on that. Do I even want to know the answer, and if I do, how do you go about getting the answer without looking like a complete jerk?

Well you should try to clear your mind by getting a DNA test just to make sure that he is yours if you really need that closer in your life. But if feel deep down your heart that he is yours regardless of what he looks like, then you should just THROW IT OUT THE WINDOW AND LOCK THAT WINDOW SHUT WHEN YOU ARE DONE AND DON'T BRING IT UP AGAIN. Cause that little boy knows in his heart that you are his and he is yours. So make your decision and do the right thing. But if you do get a DNA test and he is not yours, the only thing that I can say is that you DON'T turn your back on that little boy just because his mother was in the wrong cause his is an innocent bystander in the middle of a hurricane...

If you love your girlfriend/wife and you love the child why even bother asking? Take a look around you, these days there are more mixed families than anything else, if you are happy with what you have then let it slide, it a trust thing, if you cannot trust each other in a relationship then it's going to fall apart. Most likely if you didn't notice any guilt coming from your mate when the child was born then it's most likely yours.

Sounds like you have raised him as a son for three years now. Continue doing this and loving him because time will fly fast and soon enough he will leave the nest. Communicate with your wife your unease and hopefully she will be able to honestly put your mind to rest.

Best of luck and continue being a good father.
